Wildflower Meadow Safari

National Meadows Day on July 6th was celebrated by Wildlife Groundswell with our third annual Wildflower Meadow Safari on the Lizard.  More than 40 enthusiasts met in the morning at the National Trust's Chyvarloe property near Gunwalloe and were given a super tour of their newly-established wildflower meadows by ranger Jaz Odell.  We then moved on to Rosuick Farm near St Martin where Chris Oates showed us his fascinating range of bespoke meadow seed harvesting and storage equipment.

After a pasty lunch (kindly provided by Meadow Match) in the glorious garden at Kestle Barton, Karen Townshend hosted a tour of Kestle Barton's richly diverse wildflower meadow and beautiful flax circle.  Then, with rain threatening but not yet upon us, we walked a short way up the lane to finish the day at Kestle Wartha, where we were impressed by how horses and ponies are helping Judy Scrimshaw's 25 year old wildflower meadow to thrive.

An enjoyable and informative day was had by all, and our thanks go to all the landowners, supporters and experts who made the safari a success once again this year.
